"Creating a Medical Device Software Company - The Untold Secrets of an Entrepreneur"
Kovey Kovalan
President & Founder of KJAYA, LLC
We often hear of sensational stories of how certain companies hit it big. We become envious of that entrepreneurial life, and the rewards that comes with having those successes. We picture that water front property, flying on private jets, and enjoying the life of the riches. But the story of how one gets there is often unclear. What does it take to leave one's secure job to becoming a risk taking entrepreneur? What is this insane pursuit about creating a better world to live in? How do one become financially wealthy in the process? We'll explore the life of the presenter to give a perspective on what an entrepreneurial life is like in the pursuit of improving the well being of patients requiring radiology procedure. It unveils the unspoken entrepreneurial expectations that may come as a surprise to many of us, and how those were dealt with in building a company from the ground up.
Kovey Kovalan grew up in Malaysia and came to the US to further his education. Graduating from The Ohio State University with a Masters in Computer Science led him to multiple software engineering positions, one of which landed in a major software medical device company. When bureaucracy of the large company stood in the way of better care for patients, Kovey left to pursue a lifelong calling to become an entrepreneur. KJAYA Medical was founded in 2007 when the US economy began to tank, and he has been assuming the position of a CEO ever since. Under his leadership, the company raised $4M in capital funding to-date, obtained FDA clearance, honored with 2011 North America Technology Innovation Award from Frost and Sullivan, and has built a custom cloud for medical imaging using gaming technology for managing, viewing and sharing radiology records online: the iShareScan.com platform.
